What is Good-enough management?
We come across lots of different types of organisations, and even more different types of people. One thing which we think really distinguishes different people is how quickly they are willing to act. Some people are naturally planners- and there is a huge amount to be said for thinking things through. Unfortunately when it comes to creating a crater in your market place, sometimes first is best. Followers of this blog know that we don’t like the idea that people are either one thing or another, so…… if you are a take-action-now-kinda-guy-or-girl you probably already know that you need to put more effort into planning sometimes.
But, if you are a great thinker and planner, we’d also urge you to put this aside from time to time. If you have a big idea- something which you are excited about, and which you think there is a gap for spending a long time working out every detail may be the wrong thing to do. Sometimes the best way to make an impact is to work out the minimum you need to do to get an idea out there, and build it from there- it can be scary, especially if you have to fight your instincts, and you have to balance the risk of putting something out there which isn’t good enough.
But…. if you know there is a gap in your market or a need to be met, you may lose out to a competitor who understands how to work with good-enough.
