One of the best bits of our work is getting to meet hundreds of entrepreneurs each year. As you’d expect they are inspiring, energising and unique individuals. But… not that unique. It turns out that there are a few commonalities which we see crop up, so we thought we’d capture a few of the recurrent themes. We’re sure you never forget these things, ever… but just in case:
7. Cohesion vs Diversity
Most of us are familiar with the evidence that diverse teams tend to drive higher performance and create more innovative solutions. However it is also worth noting that diverse teams can be harder to lead, and offer higher levels of challenge. As you might imagine this is part of the magic of why they work so well, but if you want to benefit from this you may want to reflect on how you aim for, and prioritise everyone getting on. Sometimes we focus so much of building a team that gets a long that we miss the opportunity to build a highly effective team, with high levels of challenge and a healthy approach to difference and disagreement. Can you get both? Of course you can. Will you get it without conscious effort…. Unlikely.
