A Small Rant on Calling Scripts.

Oh no…. I’m definitely in a ranty mood today – spotted this article on cold calling scripts… http://www.advisorone.com/2009/07/01/winning-scripts-for-cold-calling
Many of you will know my thoughts on cold calling scripts (if you don’t know your market or your product well enough to sell without a script, please put the phone down). But for me there are a couple of things here which make me cross…. firstly this article gives no information on whether scripted calls work (I wonder why?) and secondly, gotta love the example where the first question asked is whether the person they’ve called is already a client of theirs. It reminds me of a sales letter which I received recently where the first question was whether I’d ever considered having a website for my business; now, I may be super-efficient, but honestly, how long would it have taken anyone to check that information before printing, signing and posting the letter.

I know that there are lots of people out there who are fans of making scripted calls (interestingly I meet far fewer fans of receiving them), and I do get some of the points that are made in their favour. But to date I haven’t heard an argument that clinches it for me. Go on…. give it your best shot.

And whilst you are trying to convince me….. I can feel a blog series on how to cold call differently coming on… Who’s in?
