Blog Series: The Hardest Words – “We don’t do that”

This month we’ve had a chance to talk to a lot of entrepreneurs about their businesses, and based on those discussions we’ve come up with a list of words that businesses could consider using more often. This week we are looking at the word:  “We don’t do that”

“We don’t do that”

All businesses have (or should have) things that they just won’t do. For us it’s simple, we won’t advise people on approaches and techniques that aren’t evidenced (so you’ll have to go elsewhere if you want to learn about NLP). We know a florist that won’t include gypsophilia in any bouquet. There a few reasons that you should sometimes turn work down:

1. The things you don’t do are as much part of your brand as the things you do do.

2. Clients build trust with firms who are clear on their offering (and consistently deliver it well)

3. You can’t do everything well.

4. If you know someone who does that thing well you can recommend them to your client, strengthening your relationship with the client and with the person you suggest.

What do you think? Is this a word you use often enough? Is it something you like to hear from the companies you work with?

Next week we’re looking at: “Can you help me”
