Customer selection

You know those weeks where you feel that you’ve said the same thing so often that you wonder what you are doing wrong? This has been one of those weeks.
And… having had a small sulk, I thought the best approach would be to get a blog out there about it to see if people agree or disagree with me on this! I passionately believe that selling should be about finding YOUR customers, rather than trying to convert, convince or objection-handle your way to a sale. I think that when we want to sell a message, whether it is for profit or just to get an important message out to the world we should spend most of our time working out who the message is for.
Then, we need to work out if our message is relevant, work out how to give it some welly, and think about the evidence, data and stats which support the message.
This week I’ve spent time with quite a few people who are exhausted, disheartened and frustrated that their message isn’t spreading. And yet, when we’ve analysed who they are talking to, and how they are communicating what I’ve seen is that a lot of them are focusing far too much time and energy on people who are never going to be their customers.
If your message isn’t travelling….. take a long hard look at the company it’s keeping.
